GEOMORPHOLOGY, GEOTECHNICAL CHARACTER, AND LAND USE PLANNING OF ACTIVE FAULT ZONES
Since 2007 I have been leading a project to understand the relationship between geomorphology and the geotechnical properties of fault zones, with emphasis on predicting areas of distributed deformation for fault zone planning. My main tools are field mapping, MASW and high resolution topography (LiDAR or Structure from motion). So far, the best of the project has centred around the Springfield Fault, although I have also worked on the Alpine Fault at Whataroa and Wanganui (near Hari-Hari).
