Key agencies and legislation

Petroleum and mineral resources

Agencies

Legislation

Oversight - Mining and extractive industries are managed by the AUTORIDADE NACIONAL DO PETRÓLEO E MINERAIS TIMOR-LESTE.
The website includes details on regulations and license application in the fields of minerals (including quarrying) and petroleum.
Geology, hydrogeology and geohazards - The Timor-Leste geological survey is known as IPG (INSTITUTO DO PETROLEO E GEOLOGIA). A subsidiary of ANPM in the regulatory framework, they are responsible for acquiring and collating geological information and developing interpretations of that information. They work broadly with international scientists, including Brendan Duffy, and have some basic expertise in geology, hydrogeology, engineering geology / geotechnics, seismology and paleontology.
Explosive legislation is in draft format but not passed for general purposes. Project specific legislation is available for strategic projects.
